Set on the west coast of Cyprus, Chlorakas is in prime position for views over the Mediterranean Sea. The beach here – where the sand's almost orange in colour – isn't as well known as other nearby stretches, so you'll have plenty of space to spread out. In the evenings, sunbathing's replaced by setting your sights on the horizon – you'll notice that both locals and visitors flock here to watch the sun setting over the sea.

A touch of tradition

Away from Chlorakas' seafront stretch, you can get a glimpse of Cyprus' traditional side as you head into the village itself. Take a stroll down the quiet streets, visit the old chapels, and stop for a bite to eat at a local taverna. We reckon that souvlaki – skewers of charcoal-grilled meat – go best with a refreshing local beer.

A day in Paphos

Chlorakas' closest big city is Paphos – it takes just 10 minutes to get there by car. Or, if you're up for a stroll, you can get to Paphos on foot in around an hour. The city caters for all tastes, too. There's a blend of UNESCO-ticked sites, like Aphrodite's Sanctuary, and an all-night party scene centred around Agiou Antoniou, the main bar street.
