Holidays to Paphos offer relaxing beach breaks and a tour through ancient history and culture. And with a wide selection of seafood restaurants and grill houses, it's the perfect destination to experience the true flavours of the Mediterranean.
Paphos is steeped in ancient history and mythology. It's the reputed birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek god of love and beauty. You can visit the House of Dionysus, one of the most fascinating tourist destinations on the island. Dionysus was the god of wine, pleasure, and festivity. Visit the large limestone murals at the back of the house to learn about his mythological adventures and battles through the underworld. This is a real treat for art and history buffs.
The Tomb of the Kings is a UNESCO World Heritage Site just 10 minutes' walk from the centre of Paphos. The underground tombs date back to the 4th century, and many of the ancient pillars still stand today. As you walk through the crypts, you'll see murals and carvings reminiscent of ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian mythology. The site was most likely a burial spot for high-ranking members of society, as well as a place for religious ceremonies. There are seven tombs to explore, but number three is in the best condition and contains the most interesting artefacts.
After a few days sightseeing, hit the beaches to relax and recharge those batteries. Alykes beach is only a 10-minute stroll from Paphos. Potima Bay is just a 15-minute drive away. This beautiful strip of sand attracts a small number of beach connoisseurs, making it a great spot for an idyllic respite away from the holiday crowds. Or take a trip to Akamas heights, a 25-minute drive along the coast. This is where you'll find Lara Beach, one of the best-rated beaches on the entire island.
