Prague’s weather isn’t all that different from Ireland’s – warm summers and next-to-freezing winters are the norm. July’s the hottest month, with temperatures averaging around 18°C. In contrast, the coldest time to go is in January, when the mercury hovers around freezing. You can expect to see some picturesque dustings of snow in the winter months, and the rainiest season is summer.

You should take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance to cover you while you’re away. It’s also a good idea to get a European Health Insurance Card – or EHIC – before leaving Ireland. Though it’s not a substitute for travel insurance, it entitles you to emergency medical treatment on the same terms as Czech nationals. It won’t, however, cover you for medical repatriation, ongoing medical treatment or non-urgent treatment.
