Capital
Copenhagen
Vibrant cities, wild landscapes and world-class dining – holidays to Denmark are the whole package.
Whether you’re a fuss-pot or you just like a bit of everything on your travels, Denmark will be right up your street. The country’s actually made up of more than 400 islands as well as a chunk of mainland Europe, which means it ticks off cosmo cities, squeaky-clean beaches, rolling forests, and lakes still enough to do your makeup in. It’s no surprise, really, that Denmark’s been dubbed the happiest nation on earth – you’d be proud as punch with all that on our doorstep, wouldn’t you?
It’d be rude to visit Denmark and not stop to check out the country’s colourful capital. Make sure you’ve made space in your camera roll, though, because Copenhagen’s a photographer’s paradise – think criss-cross canals, grand palaces, and townhouses spattered in more colours than a bag of Haribo. There are more Michelin-starred restaurants here than in any other city in Scandinavia, too, so if you fancy yourself as a bit of a foodie, Copenhagen should be at the top of your list.
With well over 7,000 kilometres of coastline to its name, Denmark racks up a lengthy list of beaches, including almost 200 awarded with Blue Flags for their quality. Tonnes of them are in or near the capital, too, so sunbathing sessions and sea swims aren’t out of the question, even if you’re on a city break. The rest of the country’s like Center Parcs on overdrive – think lakes ripe for canoeing through and forests laced with cycling trails.
