And if you time your trip for mid-January to mid-April, you can go whale watching out on the sea. Around 300 whales come to the Dominican Republic’s north-east coast every year to breed, and locals and tourists alike gather to watch this natural phenomenon. For the best chance of spotting one of these huge creatures, take a boat to nearby Samana Bay, one of the hottest breeding grounds.
