Holidays to Analipsi offer traditional Cretan hospitality in a relaxed environment. Set on a busy coastline, this old-fashioned village stays true to its roots with laidback Greek tavernas and a quiet beach.
Analipsi lies at the foot of the Aposelemis Gorge on Crete's north coast, surrounded by fields and olive groves. Small whitewashed cottages and gardens full of flowers line the way down to a coarse sand beach with a few rocky patches, about a 10-minute walk away. From the village square with its palm trees and Greek restaurants, small winding lanes of old houses and little boutiques lead back to the sea.
The road from Analipsi follows the coastline westwards for almost two kilometres, on a paved surface. It's a gentle, flat walk that will take you to some longer sand-and-pebble beaches. You'll find several with adventurous watersports including jet-skiing, flyboarding, and parasailing. The coast is rockier to the west of the village, and is nice for gentle walks beneath the shady tamarisk trees. From Analipsi Beach, eastward it runs into Lyttos Beach, and many more sandy stretches further on.
Analipsi is close to some of Crete’s major historic sites and landmarks. It takes about 20 minutes to drive to Heraklion, the capital city where you'll find Venetian and Turkish architecture, like the Venetian Portal Almighty gate at the old walls. The Minoan Palace of Knossos is only a 40-minute drive out of the city, and Malia to the east of Analipsi has another. You can discover this area on foot, bike, or rented buggy, or head south to the mountains by car.
