Lyttos Beach is a small beach resort on the north coast of Crete, flanked by the village of Analipsi only five minutes away. Here you'll find some traditional tavernas and a few bars, with a little more choice further west at Anissaras. It's a good area for quiet family fun, as CRETAquarium is a 10-minute drive away. Here you can see stingrays and dusky groupers. And on the way is Dinosauria Park with a playground, museum, and cinema all dedicated to dinosaurs.
Lyttos Beach is long and sandy, with clean water for swimming and brollies for sunbathing. You can hire kayaks or pedalos, or there’s more varied watersports like diving available at nearby Anissaras Beach. You can walk there on a pleasant two-kilometre coastal path in around 30 minutes, so you could easily stroll over for lunch. There are plenty more beaches all along this stretch of coast up to Hersonissos, only a few minutes away by car.
There are plenty of areas to discover on foot or by bike, including the Aposelemis Gorge, plus the lively resort of Hersonissos which is full of bars, clubs and restaurants. Crete’s capital city of Heraklion is a 30-minute drive away, with its massive Venetian fortifications. Here you'll find lots of souvenir shops and restaurants serving up Cretan, Greek, and international cuisine. There's a good archaeological museum in Heraklion as well as the Minoan Palace of Knossos.
