excelent hotel but.
We spent a week at the rithymna beach hotel. Arriving on the 3rd October. we were very impressed on arrival. warm welcome at the reception, and our room in the main building was excellent. The hotel is very tastefully furnished, and the location close to the beach is perfect. HOWEVER.-- half way through the week our holiday was ruined, when a group of people approx. 500,arrived from the Netherlands. The hotel had put banners up, welcoming them ,and they had come to party.?? they were drinking all day, and most of the night. they took over the hotel and the noise was quite shocking. Other guests felt intimidated . you do not expect such an experience , When you stay at a 5 STAR HOTEL More
We went here for our honeymoon. It was absolutely amazing and the hotel sits right on the beach. When we arrived they had upgraded us to beach view, they spread rose petals on the bed, had roses on the desk, champagne and honey with apple compote. Incredibly romantic. The bed was King size, the room was a good size and the bathroom was a good size as well. They also provided us with a free certificate for a 15 minute massage as well as free certificate for two glasses of champagne in any of their restaurants. The restaurants were absolutely amazing. They have two buffet restaurants, some cafes, and two fancy restaurants. Every night their taverna by the pool had a different theme such as BBQ night, Greek night, or Italian feast. The decoration and live dinner music was incredible with a huge buffet selection. We also had half board meaning we could get breakfast and then a lunch or a dinner every day in the main restaurant. This buffet had a huge selection of dishes and fruits and desserts. The breakfast buffet was equally impressive with delicious smoked salmon. The two fancy restaurants were even amazing and probably some of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Their Oceana restaurant was so romantic where you had dinner on the sandy beach with candle light watching the sunset. Their other restaurant was in an elevated patio with stone walls and beautiful flowers and a delicious menu. The food is absolutely amazing and you do not even need to leave the hotel to get an amazing beach and food experience. They had so many free activities in the hotel such as archery, massage class, dance class, and cooking class. It is really a relaxing resort package and very romantic. It is also great for kids since the instructors take the kids out for daily free activities and sports. Many nights of the week also have a free DJ for dancing and partying which is both couple and family friendly. Not to mention there are several add ons such as water sports, para sailing, jet skiing, and other water sports you can pay for. Their spa and massages were incredible! Their therapists are very skilled and we had a massage almost every day, the deep tissue massage specifically. If you choose to venture outside, the old Rethymnon town is so charming, and you need a car to get there which is a 10 minute drive. If you want a taverna experience, there are plenty of restaurants walking distance from the hotel. The beach however has some very strong waves and has a very rocky bottom. The days we were there were for experienced swimmers, thus I recommend to lazy on the beach or in the pool if you have small children or inexperienced swimmers. Definitely take a body board or floatation device for adults, even if experienced. As a surfer, I am an experienced swimmer but still made sure to take a body board into the water with me at all times. There is a life guard during crowded hours patrolling the beach which is very nice. Overall an incredibly relaxing honeymoon with amazing food and a truly all inclusive experience!! The price is also amazing for this 5 star hotel!! Definitely recommend!More
Best place in Rithymna
Great place with excellent friendly staff, variety of tasty food and beautiful sea! A lot of sport activities for adults and very good kids club, as well as teen club. I suppose it's the best hotel around Rithymna! More
Another superb holiday
We had a wonderful holiday between 5th – 15th September. This was our 7th visit and we are now planning our holiday for next year. We appreciate the Aquila recognition of loyal customers and the gifts in our room. We had been concerned that Mr George Barelier had left and wondered if lots of changes would be made when we arrived. One significant difference was that we did not see the new manager around the hotel as much as we used to see George. It was also very noticeable to us that many staff who we have known over the years are no longer working at the hotel and we saw many new faces in all areas. However those remaining staff who we have got to know greeted us warmly which we much appreciated. We would like to thank in particular, Maria (Guest relations) Christina at the pool, Marielena at Mournies also Nikos and in the main restaurant Evangela, Christos and Stelios. The Lifeguard also did he job very well. We very much appreciate the poolside rules which he upheld at all times. On the subject of the pool there seemed to be many many more buggies with toddlers this year. Many of these families put their babies in floaters in the main pool around the main steps into the pool making it difficult for adults (some with disabilities) to enter. Why do they not use the lovey children’s pool which is there specially for them? We noticed that some problems with the room (442) that we notified of last year had been attended to which was good. We did however have a smell in the bathroom from time to time but it was not something serious enough for us to report. Some things however did cause us a little concern. This year the team the Animation Team seemed much bigger and certainly more obvious. The loud music, shouting and splashing at the main pool daily was not nice for us but it was only for an hour. We did once go to the new Amphitheatre (when we eventually found it!) but it was such a long walk with no lighting and limited, uncomfortable, seating so we did not stay – the show was not very good in our opinion either. The service at the main bar in the evening continues to be very slow and some nights we could not find a table and seats outside. The very large chairs and tables on the top terrace could be replaced with smaller furniture (as on the lower terrace) which would allow more people to be seated. The buffet and themed dinners continue to be excellent and luncat the pool bar id wonderful. We appreciate the continuing ‘rule’ that long trousers should be worn for dinner (we know this upsets some people) We noticed that this year a large part of the inner and presumably nearby outer dining area has been designated as ‘Family Area’. We prefer to eat outside at the newer outside area but found it embarrassing when one lady was breast feeding her baby at the breakfast table! Sorry but that was not necessary in such a public place. Also on several evenings, after 21.00pm, families arrived and were seated in the newer area with toddlers who mostly ran around or screamed and cried while the parents ate their dinner. All in all this is a wonderful hotel on a beautiful island which we know very well, now. A car/jeep for a few days allows us to travel to many favorite places to the west/east and south of the island. However if you want a totally relaxing holiday this hotel offers everything so you don't really need to go anywhere.More
Family vacation, rest and eat well
Large hotel (570 rooms) with a beautiful seafront. Water sports and pools. We ordered a bungalow, one for the parents and one for the children, but because of the distance we received a beautiful villa with a small pool and a first line for water. No doubt the room was excellent. Breakfast and dinner were very varied and everyone found what to eat, very tasty. The only thing that irritated was the price of drinking (€ 5 for a bottle of water, € 7 for a bottle of soda and 250 ml of sweetened drink for € 4). Children up to the age of 12 have a very large area with a special staff that constantly cares for them. Lots of games, works (paintings and more) and plays until the evening. Inside the children's compound there is food for the children all the time. We'll probably be back ...More
