Charming village

Set in Greece's western Halkidiki peninsula, Hanioti's a jewel in the coastal crown. The village may have an old-world look, but it's a hotspot for those in search of retail therapy and low-key nightlife. The pretty fountain's a perfect spot to sit and take in the sights, and there are loads of tavernas, shops, bars and cafés sprinkled along the surrounding streets.

Glittering shores

Hanioti's pride and joy is its five-kilometre stretch of white-sand beach. The shimmering waters are transparent – a treat for divers, serious swimmers and doggie-paddlers alike. When you need shade, there's a leafy tree-lined park to retreat to.

Ancient history

Roughly a 90-minute drive away, the ancient city of Thessaloniki's still standing. It's a historical and cultural gold mine, with plenty of churches and museums to visit, as well as a monastery. The famous White Tower marks the waterfront here, where there's also a bevy of lively cocktail joints.
