Holidays to Aghios Ioannis take you to a traditional Greek village with a whopping waterpark attached. Both the Blue Flag beach and lively Corfu Town are just a handy shuttle-bus away.
A 2-sided resort
Set on the east coast of Corfu, Aghios Ioannis has a split personality – it’s half waterpark and half traditional village. Aqualand packs in family-friendly slides and a whopper of a wave pool, while up in the old square you can kick back with the locals. As for getting out and about, a free shuttle bus gets you to the beach and Corfu Town.
Blue Flag beach
Handily, the bus takes you straight to Kontogialos Beach at Pelekas. This Blue Flag number deals up gently sloping sand and shallow water. They’re not big on sunloungers here, though, so you might want to bring a towel to lie on. And you’ll need to make room for the locals, who love this spot at weekends.
Just 1 kilometre from Aqualand you’ve got the quaint village of Agios. It’s a really traditional place with stone cottages dotted between the olive and orange groves. There’s a main square here where you can stop at one of the bars for a strong, sweet coffee – just the way the locals like it.
Close to Corfu Town
The free shuttle bus makes day trips to Corfu Town super-easy. You’ve got a good quota of sightseeing to get round here, some of which you might want to do from a horse-drawn carriage. Otherwise, you can walk round the 2 Venetian forts, dip into the museums and palaces near Spinada Square and finish off with dinner at one of the elegant restaurants on The Liston.
