View All DealsHolidays to Agios Fokas are spent chilling on the black-sand beach, dining on freshly-hooked seafood and taking daytrips to nearby Kos Town.
Agios Fokas Beach ticks all the boxes. Because it’s made up of a mix of black sand and pebbles, the water is really clear – so it’s ideal for swimming and snorkelling. A decent selection of thatched parasols and sunloungers are dotted along its length. And, there’s a beach club for food, drinks and chill-out tunes.
Nearby Kos Town, the capital of the island, is a magnet for history buffs. The 15th-century Castle of the Knights sits at the entrance of the harbour, and you can stroll along the top of the walls for unobstructed bay views. Roman and Hellenistic ruins, like the 5th-century shrine of Aphrodite, are dotted throughout the rest of the town.
A 30-minute drive from Agios Fokas, you’ll find a handful of charming mountain villages. They’re surrounded by greenery, babbling streams, narrow alleys, and Medieval ruins, and exploring them is a great way to get a glimpse of the area’s more traditional side. You can refuel along the way at one of the tavernas, where grilled meats and mezze are on the menu.
