View All DealsHolidays to Afandou will give you the real taste of Rhodes, with traditional Greek restaurants, old churches, and beach bars all nestled amongst the hills and olive farms.
You'll find Afandou on Rhodes’ north-east coast. It’s one of the bigger settlements on the island, and is surrounded with orchards and olive groves. It's well worth visiting the 17th-century church of Panagia Katholiki, built over an early Christian basilica, because of its photo-worthy frescoes. This is an old-fashioned place where the tavernas showcase the best of Greek home cooking, with dishes including beef stifado and chicken souvlaki. A little road-train connects the town with the beach. You’ll find a few quiet bars in the lanes leading off the square, but if you're after something more energetic, Faliraki is only ten minutes' drive.
Afandou has one of the longest beaches on Rhodes, with around seven kilometres of shingle. It's a good idea to pack some beach shoes. The water is clear and inviting, and at the far end you can check out the Traganou sea caves. Anthony Quinn Bay and Faliraki are just a bit further on, with their on-the-go atmosphere and nightlife. There’s plenty of watersports like jet-skiing and water-skiing, and boat trips around Afandou. There are land sports, too. Here, you can follow up days spent out on the golf course or shooting range with a relaxing visit to the spa.
Rhodes Town is only a 30-minute drive away, and here you can see the UNESCO-listed historic centre. This walled city was built by medieval crusading knights and still has lots of interesting sights to offer including the Palace, the Acropolis, and the Fort. There are also some more modern sites, like the aquarium and Vegas-style casino.
