View All DealsHolidays to Gennadi offer the peace of a traditional Greek village with family-run tavernas and a quiet beach. There's a Byzantine church and easy access to the historic town of Lindos, where you can see the ruins of the ancient citadel.
Gennadi is in south Rhodes, about three-quarters of the way down the island's east coast. It used to be a fishing village, and still has a lot of traditional features, like narrow streets and old-fashioned tavernas. It's not as busy as other nearby resorts, which makes it good for families. Though there are modern houses to be found here now, there's still a lot of historic architecture. The Byzantine Basilica of St Anastasia the Roman was built with ancient marble in the 14th-century, and is full of antique frescoes.
The main draw of Gennadi is the beach. It stretches for six kilometres, and offers great views of the sea and surrounding rural landscape. It has sun loungers and brollies but the beach is pebbly, so take some swimming shoes. The upside is that it's rarely crowded, and there are plenty of good seaside tavernas and bars where you can stop for some pitarouda, which is a Rhodes speciality. A five-minute drive north to Kiotari will have you in the heart of the region's watersports scene, with water-skiing and parasailing on offer. Or take a half-hour drive down to Prasonisi to find soft sand and shallow waters.
Rhodes Town has a lovely harbour and a UNESCO-listed medieval walled city built by Crusader knights. It takes just over an hour to drive to Rhodes from Gennadi, so plan for a whole day out. Half an hour's drive from Gennadi you'll find classical and Crusader relics on the Acropolis of Lindos, as well as a sandy beach.
