View All DealsHolidays to Lardos give you a chance to sample the lifestyle led in a traditional Greek island village, and there's a good beach which is only a few minutes' walk away from many of the local hotels.
Lardos is situated just inland near the south-eastern coast of Rhodes. The village has an old-fashioned feel, with plenty of trees, a church and an unusual Italian fountain. But it's anything but sleepy. If you fancy a hike, there’s a working monastery about 30 minutes away up in the hills. Closer to the bay, the ruins of a Byzantine castle are just outside the village, and you can walk here in around 15 minutes. Alternatively, there are many rural paths through the olive groves.
You'll have your choice of beaches in and around Lardos. Many offer wide expanses of sand and shingle, with safe, shallow water. Brollies and loungers are available, or you might even try a beach-bed gazebo at one of the beachfront hotels. You’ll see fishermen bringing in their catch if you go early enough in the morning. What's more, four or five of the island's best beaches lie between Glystra and Pefkos, with Lardos right in the middle. This means that whichever direction you head along the coast, you're likely to find a great spot to relax.
The attractive town of Lindos is only a 15-minute drive from Lardos, and has a preservation order guarding ruins and historic architecture. Medieval cobbled streets and whitewashed houses are topped by an ancient Acropolis, and no cars are permitted. A longer drive of just under an hour will take you to the capital city of Rhodes Town, where the medieval walls and fortifications surround many historic sights, including the Acropolis and the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights.
