View All DealsHolidays to Castelnuovo offer easy access to Italy's famous theme park Gardaland, as well as an array of other family attractions. The historic town itself is small, pretty and surrounded by countryside.
Slightly inland from Gardaland, Castelnuovo is a small resort set back from Lake Garda. Sandwiched between the larger towns of Peschiera and Lazise, Castelnuovo has a rich history which is easy to explore as you wander around the area. The local church, Madonna degli Angeli, is well worth a visit, as are the war memorial and Torre Viscontea, the medieval tower.
If you enjoy getting the adrenaline pumping, you’ll love staying at Castelnuovo. It’s the perfect base from which to visit Gardaland. Among Italy's most well-known theme parks, Gardaland includes a set of themed hotels. Whether you enjoy screaming on a rollercoaster, watching a comedy show, or getting up close and personal with marine life in the aquarium, Gardaland will keep the whole family entertained. In the unlikely event that you need more, a massive waterpark called Canevaworld Resort is just a few kilometres away. You might also enjoy Movieland, with its film-themed rides and attractions.
While Castelnuovo is a small resort, the theme parks make up for it. However, if you want a change, you can easily catch a train to the bigger cities of Verona, Milan and Venice. The routes will take you through vineyards and olive groves. Within a couple of hours you’ll be browsing the shops and seeing the city sights.
The Lido di Campanello is a scenic spot on the walk along the lakefront between Castelnuovo and Peschiera. There is a pebble beach and a small play area for children.
Sunbathe on the banks of the lake at Ronchi. Like most of the beaches on the lake, it’s a mix of pebbles and grass - there’s a bar so you can grab a drink and watch the waves lapping at the shore.
The weekly market is the place to go if you're after something special to take home. It runs every Tuesday morning and sells all kinds – from clothes to jewellery to delicious, locally-produced food.
Grab a glass of wine at the hotel bar, head for the garden and enjoy the tranquillity of this pretty setting.
Castelnuovo is more of a quiet town so if you’re looking for a something a bit more lively then head to the nearby towns of Peschiera or Lazise. During high season (15th June to 10th September) Gardaland is open until 11pm each day – so the fun can continue well after the sun sets.
Castelnuovo has plenty of restaurants where you can sample the freshest, local Italian cuisine at its best. There is a range of restaurants within the Gardaland hotel complex or, when you want a change of scenery, take a walk or a short taxi ride to Castelnuovo centre and Peschiera. Gardaland itself has loads of themed restaurants to keep you going throughout the day.
Easy to reach on foot, this is within the grounds of the Gardaland hotel complex and a quality restaurant that also caters for the little ones - perfect for the whole family.
Located about a 20 minute walk or a short cab ride from the Gardaland hotels, at Al Taolon you can enjoy an authentic Italian mail that won't break the bank. Meals are prepared with fresh produce that you can pair with a bottle of their delicious house wine.
Also in Castelnuovo centre, the Bench Pub will appeal to football fans but also to anyone who loves a good gourmet burger - try the mega Premier League-themed burgers and support your home team. The portions are huge so come with an appetite.
There are some quiet, limited traffic roads which you can take to get to the centre of Castelnuovo. Here you may choose to visit the Madonna degli Angeli sanctuary.
To experience the lake from the water, head over to Peschiera (on the Gardaland shuttle bus) or Lazise where you can hop on a ferry and take a relaxing ride to the other towns around Lake Garda.
Peschiera train station is a short taxi ride from Castelnuovo or, alternatively, the Gardaland shuttle bus stops there. From the station you can get to famous Italian cities Verona (just half an hour away), Venice and Milan (both within a couple of hours).
There are free shuttle buses that run to Gardaland so the whole family can be on the rides in no time. Or catch a bus to the nearby villages of Lazise or Peschiera and explore another Lake Garda resort.
