Make a splash

This resort sits right by the sea in the north of Malta, so you can bet there’s plenty to do on the water. There are rock pools and caves scattered along the coastline, and boats regularly sail in and out of the harbour. Lots of them head to the Blue Lagoon – a show-stopping spot between the islands of Comino and Cominotto with bright blue waters you can swim and snorkel in. There are also plenty of scuba diving trips in St Paul’s Bay, taking you to historic shipwrecks and areas with kaleidoscopic sea life. You could spy the likes of tuna, octopus, cuttlefish, squid and damselfish. And, if you’re lucky, you might spot turtles and dolphins, too.

Dancing after dark

Evenings in St Paul’s Bay are a lively affair – especially in peak season. The seafront promenade’s dotted with bars, restaurants and ice-cream parlours. Plus, there are a few beach clubs and rooftop bars where you can grab cocktails while the sun sets. If you’re up for dancing into the early hours, you’ve got a handful of nightclubs to try out, too. Buggiba and Qawra are two of the most popular areas for late-night drinks.

A slice of nature

As well as being right by the sea, St Paul’s Bay’s also within touching distance of some top-notch nature spots. The Xemxija area’s one to note if you’re into walking – it's home to the Simar Nature reserve, where you’ll be able to spot aquatic birds like kingfishers and herons, along with the Xemxija Heritage Trail. This is a popular hiking route that rolls out for almost 10km, weaving past the sea, through cave dwellings and past ancient Roman baths – it’s a great way to see more of the island, all the while getting some steps in.
