View All DealsBalaclava is located just outside the Mauritian town of Solitude, and that's exactly what you get here. Holidays to Balaclava are quiet and serene.
Beach hopping is one of the most popular activities in Balaclava, and there are plenty to choose from. Perhaps best of all, there are different types of beaches to suit different people. Some are quieter, while others are more action-packed. The long stretches of sand close to the main hotel strip host more active pursuits, like beach volleyball and water-skiing. Or seek out one of the smaller alcoves for some peaceful sunbathing with a dramatic backdrop. The protective reefs around the island create lagoons of calm water, ideal for swimming and snorkelling.
Although Balaclava is known as a beach resort, there’s actually much more here than meets the eye. When it's time to eat, it’s possible to get almost anything from fresh locally caught seafood to chic French dishes followed by an authentic crème brûlée. And when it comes to shopping, Le Caudan Waterfront is the place to be. Located just a 20-minute drive away in Port Louis, this upmarket district is home to local crafts as well as international brands like Hugo Boss and Quicksilver.
There's as much to see in the waters surrounding Balaclava as there is in the resort itself. A popular way to discover the off-shore beauty is to take a glass-bottom boat trip out into the Indian Ocean. During the trip, you can watch the colourful reef fish and turtles in their natural habitat. If you’re travelling with children, a boat trip is definitely one of the most fun and educational activities in all of Mauritius.
