Can't decide between sandy beaches and green forests of native trees? Holidays to Bel Ombre offer both. This small village in Mauritius is a year-round hotspot, with lots of activities such as swimming and hiking.
The exotic natural sights of Bel Ombre are among some of the south coast’s biggest attractions. The other-worldly colours of the sand dunes at the Seven Coloured Earths formation have to be seen to be believed. And for a glimpse of macaque monkeys, peacocks, and blue geckos in the wild, a trip to the Black River Gorges is a must. Bel Ombre is ideal for anyone who loves the great outdoors.
Away from the forested national parks lies the Bel Ombre beachfront. The scenery here is just as appealing, with views over the Indian Ocean. Families with small children will love the beaches in Bel Ombre. The underwater coral reefs break the waves, creating calm, smooth waters. Due to the location on the south coast, the beaches can get a little breezy so you may see some local kite surfers showing off their moves.
If a trip to Black River Gorges leaves you hungry for more, you’re in luck. Nestled just behind the mountains of Bel Ombre is the Frederica Nature Reserve. From the peak, you can get a good view of the surrounding waterfalls and dense tree cover. And if you don’t want to walk on the wild side, why not ride it? Quad bike tours are one of the best ways to get around the reserve and see everything it offers, such as the chimney towers of the old sugar estate, and the Jacotet River.
