Holidays to Grand Gaube will take you to a secluded spot on the coast, just before the beaches give way to the jungle. Have a true castaway adventure in this tropical paradise.

True Mauritius

At the northern tip of Mauritius lies Grand Gaube, a tiny seaside village. It's one of the last stations on the eastern side of the island's coast before the shore turns to dramatic rocky outcrops. The village itself is graced with pristine and sheltered bays, and a swathe of endless blue water. Further along the coast, you won’t find beaches, but you will find fewer tourists and a true glimpse into local Mauritian life.

Undeveloped beaches

The hotels in Grand Gaube nestle against the sandy coves that make up the shoreline. This place has managed to stave off overdevelopment. As a result, the public beaches in the area remain uncrowded, clean, and happily, a place where locals still gather. There are snack food stands where you can grab a bite, a small playground, and miles of open ocean.

Explore the north

One of the best things about being on the north coast is access to the lagoon, only a 5-minute drive away. The lagoon is particularly popular for sailing trips, windsurfing, and mesmerising glass-bottom boat tours. You’re also only a 15-minute drive from Cap Malheureux, at the very top of Mauritius. See its famed red-tiled church, a landmark of the area, and wander down its soft sand beach into its shallow waters.

Visit Grand Baie

Sunbathing, swimming and watersports may be the main agenda items in Grand Gaube, but Grand Baie isn't short on those charms either. If you fancy some retail therapy, the chance to try every Mauritian dish going, or simply want to enjoy the nightlife of the island, you must visit Grand Baie. A 20-minute drive out west will see you ducking into the boutiques, duty-free shops, swanky restaurants, and buzzing clubs of this nearby town.
