View All DealsThe tiny fishing village of Trou d'eau Douce, AKA ‘sweet water hole', is located on the less developed east coast of Mauritius. Holidays to Trou d'eau Douce are about slow-paced strolls along the shore, shopping trips to local markets, and boat trips to neighbouring islands.
Trou d’eau Douce is a relaxed, low-key place where the adrenaline-fuelled activities of the south are replaced with chilled-out strolls and calm ocean swims. Taking a walk through the local street markets is a great way to explore, and there are all sorts of fresh fruits, vegetables, and handicrafts on offer. Woven Mauritian bags are a popular souvenir to pick up.
If you’re a true nature lover, it doesn’t get much better than Trou d’eau Douce. To get a feel for what to expect, just take a look at the Mauritian flag, decorated in red, blue, green, and yellow. These are the colours you can expect to find all over the village. Yellow sands, blue waters, and green countryside. You'll also get a pop of red as you stroll through the historic streets lined with colourful stalls and marketplaces.
Sunny Mauritian afternoons are made for beachside fun along the almost five-kilometre coastline. For a day out with a difference, take a boat trip over to Île aux Cerfs. This nearby island provides shade from the hot Mauritian sun with its dense tree cover, but the real draw is its beaches. Sandy and secluded, the beaches here are ideal for relaxing. The rocky, coral-rich waters off the coastline are very popular for snorkelling. There’s even an 18-hole golf course on the island, if you fancy a round.
