Puerto Aventuras

Puerto Aventuras holidays take you to Mexico’s Riviera Maya, where ice-white sands are backed up by a yacht-filled marina.

A laidback Caribbean marina village

Puerto Aventuras is nestled along Mexico’s postcard-worthy Riviera Maya coast, and this part of the shoreline’s about as laidback as it gets. Cue a calm marina filled with yachts, pastel-coloured buildings along the waterfront, and palm trees swaying above quiet beaches of soft, white sand. The resort’s sandwiched between the jungle and the sea, and the small, sheltered bay keeps the waves gentle.

Quiet vibes

There’s a village-style vibe here, with everything revolving around Puerto Aventuras’ purpose-built marina. It’s the only full-service marina between Cancun and Belize, so plenty of people come here for catamaran trips along the Caribbean coast. If you’re hanging around the marina though, you’ll find plenty of waterfront restaurants and cafés, shops and beach clubs. Snorkelling and scuba diving are on the cards in the clear waters, too.

By the water

Unlike some of its neighbours along the Riviera Maya, Puerto Aventuras takes full advantage of its by-the-water postcode. As well as homes and hotels which are pulled right up to the waterfront, activities like sailing, fishing and diving are central to life here. Boats head out every day to the nearby reefs, where snorkellers and divers explore colourful coral and tropical fish. The marina is also a departure point for yacht trips along the coast and to nearby islands.

Out and about

Puerto Aventuras’ location makes it easy to explore the other towns dotted up and down the Riviera Maya. Head just 15 minutes up the coast and you’ll reach Playa del Carmen, which is known for its lively restaurants, nightlife and Quinta Avenida shopping street. Around 30 minutes south, meanwhile, is Akumal – famous for its calm waters, which are ideal for snorkellers spotting sea turtles. The clifftop ruins of Tulum Archaeological Zone are within an hour’s drive, too. It’s home to one of the most scenic Mayan sites in Mexico, with views overlooking the Caribbean Sea.
