Flying direct from Dublin and Cork, holidays to Porches offer up great beaches, vineyards and orange groves, and authentic Algarvian cuisine. Swim in the sea by day and then spend the evening in one of the village's wine cellars.
Porches is an ideal resort from which to see the Algarve's traditional scenery and slow pace of life. On the resort’s southern edge are yellow-sand beaches and rugged cliffs of limestone. Drive north and you’ll see vineyards, orange groves, and traditional white houses splashed with colour. Porches is a quiet place, but if you’d like to experience nightlife and theme parks, the towns of Lagoa and Armacao de Pera are only 10 minutes away by car.
All within easy reach, you’ll find the three main things the Algarve is famed for – wineries, pottery and seafood. Whole days in Porches can be spent sampling local wines direct from the vineyards, browsing stalls and shops selling handcrafted ceramics. In the evening, settle into a romantic restaurant to taste the local fresh fish dishes. Of course, if you’d like to try some more high-energy activities, some of the Algarve’s best theme parks are just a day-trip away.
In Porches you’re sure to find plenty to do and great places to eat. If you’d like to venture out to other resorts, however, you have lots of choices. A 10-minute drive will take you to Armacao de Pera. This spot is popular with families, largely due to its long sandy beach, seafront bars and cafés, and abundance of street entertainment. In the ancient town, you can see working fishermen come in from the sea with their catches, and then check out the ruins of a 17th-century fort. If you fancy something to get the adrenaline pumping, the Zoomarine and Slide & Splash theme parks are both 10 minutes away by car.
