Flying direct from Dublin and Cork, holidays to Praia da Gale are largely based around the beach. The five-kilometre sandy stretch is the main appeal for most visitors, and you'll also find a good selection of local restaurants and bars.
Praia de Gale’s beach is an impressive five kilometres long, and is located on the south coast of Portugal. The sandy stretch is flanked by sandstone cliffs, giving it the feeling of being far from civilisation, while still being close to the resort. The waves vary from day to day. Sometimes, the water is as smooth as glass, perfect for swimming and paddling. At other times, the surf gets up, attracting watersports enthusiasts for surfing and windsurfing. A Blue Flag award winner, this spot is ideal for families as it’s safe and clean. There are amenities within easy walking distance.
If you enjoy a game of golf, you’ll be pleased you chose to holiday in Praia de Gale. The relaxed village has a high-class 18-hole golf course with an extravagant clubhouse. This is a great place to eat, but you’ll also find a range of traditional and modern eateries dotted around the resort. If you’re not into golf, you may still appreciate the manicured greens and the attention to detail of the landscaping.
Gale is a small town tucked between the big city of Albufeira and the busy seaside village of Armacao de Pera. A visit to the city will likely involve wandering the cobbled streets in the old town, popping into one of the many cafés for lunch. If you go after sunset, you’ll be able to choose from many cocktail bars and night clubs. In Armacao de Pera, the main attraction is a tour of the Benagil Caves.
