View All DealsHolidays to Praia do Vau offer peace and quiet, with a sandy beach and not a great deal else to spoil the serenity. There are sprightlier towns nearby, and other areas in the Algarve are also easy to get to.
Praia do Vau is a small, tranquil town that’s hidden within a bay on the Algarve’s west coast. The resort is centred around relaxation, so you’ll find a great beach and a small number of restaurants and shops. Here, you won’t be plagued by crowds of tourists, or kept up at night by party-goers. Visitors to Praia do Vau are attracted by the opportunity to shut off from the daily grind and get some much-needed rest. If, however, you need a greater variety of eateries and bars, the resorts of Praia da Rocha and Alvor are a 5-minute drive away.
Praia do Vau’s main asset is its beach, a vast curve of sand with a gently sloping shoreline. The sea is shallow and calm in this area – perfect for paddling and swimming – but as it’s the Atlantic, it’s unlikely to be warm. While here, you can hire parasols and loungers to make your day more comfortable. You’ll also find one or two eateries to keep you in drinks and snacks. There isn’t much in the way of bustling activity at this lovely spot. However, the neighbouring resorts have that covered.
If you enjoy a walk on holiday, head along the Praia do Vau cliffs. The route offers some spectacular views of the coastline. If you wander to the west, you’ll reach Praia do Alvor, where you’ll see far-reaching views of the rocky arches spiking out into the ocean. Alternatively, time your outing for low tide and head out for a 20-minute walk across the beach to Praia da Rocha. You can spend a couple of hours here exploring the caves and rock pools.
