Blue Flag beach

The Blue Flag beach at Praia Dos Salgados offers you eight kilometres of prime seafront. Its broad white sands are peaceful, with only a few sunbeds. This is a place to get back to nature, as you cross the dunes on wooden boardwalks. The beach offers you a great walk from Gale at one end to Armacao de Pera at the other. There are a couple of restaurants, also at either end, where you can refresh yourself after your walk.

For bird watchers

The Salgados Lagoon is surrounded by great swathes of dense marshland and streams. Bird watchers will spot many types of birds fishing there and making their nests in its reeds. You might see some curlews and cormorants, terns and red herons, and in season, the leggy flamingo.

Golfing in style

The Algarve is famed for its golf courses, and the one at Praia Dos Salgados is among the best. The course has links that make good use of the parkland and coastal sand dunes. It'll provide you with a challenge as you negotiate its 14 water hazards in the low-lying wetland.
