Holidays to Quarteira deliver big in the beach department, and the traditional restaurant scene has plenty going for it, too.
Quarteira conforms to a lot of the Algarve’s holiday must-haves, but still manages to stick to its traditional roots. Just like nearby Albufeira, the postcard-worthy beachfront is the town’s focal point. But instead of a lively party scene, evenings here are about tucking into Portuguese cuisine in a local restaurant, and taking leisurely strolls along the palm-studded seafront.
This part of Portugal’s peppered with Blue Flags, and the beach at Quarteira is no exception. The peach-coloured sand’s ideal for sunbathing, and comes with a leafy promenade that stretches out behind it. Restaurants and tavernas are in good supply, and if you stroll along the coastline towards Vilamoura, you’ll reach a beach and marina duo that also bear the Blue Flag emblem.
If golf’s your sport, then this is the place for you. Quarteira’s on the cusp of five different courses, which are spread out around neighbouring Vilamoura. When you’re done working on your handicap, you can stick around for a lively night scene, or take the 10-minute drive back to Quarteira for something slower paced.
