Flying direct from Dublin, Cork or Shannon, holidays to PortAventura allow you to enjoy Spain's largest theme park and the sandy beaches nearby. If you want to visit Barcelona, it's only an hour away by train.
Holidays here are all centred around the park. The rides, and also the restaurants and shops, are grouped according to six global themes. Every year, more than three million people come to PortAventura. The huge theme park is the main attraction, and is famous throughout Spain. Aside from the rides, the area has a vast beach and a great selection of buzzing restaurants and bars. For an even more energetic nightlife, take a five-minute drive to neighbouring Salou. Barcelona is just an hour away by train.
Ferrari Land is a celebration of the historic brand. The park opened in 2017 and spans 70,000 square metres. Red Force is the main event. It's seriously tall and moves as fast as 110mph in places, securing its place as Europe’s fastest and tallest rollercoaster. In the kids’ zone, there's a smaller version. Elsewhere in the park, you’ll find authentic-looking trattorias, and shows that mark Ferrari’s Italian legacy. This is a must-visit for any car enthusiast.
The PortAventura theme park really is vast, so it’s sensibly split into six manageable sections. There’s the Far West part, in which you get to ride a thrilling raft down the 'Grand Canyon'. Then there's the Mediterranean part, in which you can feel like you’re flying on the Furios Baco. This is Europe's fastest rollercoaster. If you’re not into fast rides, however, you can watch firework displays, dance performances and acrobatics.
If you’d like to visit Barcelona, you can get there by train in an hour. You’ll have so much to do here. Take a tour bus to see Gaudi’s cathedral, La Sagrada Familia. Wander around Frank Gehry’s fish sculpture. After soaking up the culture, sample local cuisine on Las Ramblas. Watch a street performance before catching a train back to PortAventura.
