Boasting high-end hotels, swanky beach clubs and a dreamy coastline, Abu Dhabi city breaks level up the luxe to 10.
Abu Dhabi is the largest of the Emirates – the seven sections that make up the UAE. But, despite its size, the city of Abu Dhabi is considerably smaller than holiday heavyweight Dubai. It still shares its love for all things luxe, it’s just a little easier to find your way around the city. And, the question of which has the best beaches is contested between the two, but lots of people say that Abu Dhabi snatches the crown.
If you’re heading on holiday to spend your days sunbathing on the beach, Abu Dhabi’s got stacks of sand-line spots to choose from. Plus, most of our hotels are planted right on the coast, so you’re never more than a few feet from the seafront. The hotels on Yas Island are a top pick for families – this place is like a one-stop-shop for entertainment, with a theme park, a waterpark, and an F1 racetrack all under its belt. Elsewhere, Saadiyat Island is a popular choice for couples – here, you’ve got a string of five-star hotels, fine-dining restaurants as well as a huge golf course.
It’s not all about cloud-brushing skyscrapers and massive malls in Abu Dhabi – the city’s held on to its historical sights, too. At 250-years-old, Qasr al Hosn Fort is the city’s oldest building, and it’s the oldest stone-built building anywhere in the country. It’s also got the UAE’s largest mosque – Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque has got more than 80 decorated domes, 100 chunky columns and a collection of 24-carat gold-gilded chandeliers to gaze at.
