About Croatia
Whether you’re looking to catch a deep summer tan as you island-hop, or soak up some winter sun on a city break, a Croatia holiday is a great option. In Dubrovnik, make a direct line for the old town – it dates back to the 7th century, and is packed with stylish cafés and designer boutiques. Team that with a flurry of golden-sand beaches and five-star hotels, and it’s easy to see why the city’s become a go-to for international celebrities. Plus, Dubrovnik’s charm has made it a star filming location – it’s been featured in Game of Thrones and Star Wars Episode VIII. Along the coast in Split, there’s a long roll call of historical sights to see – Diocletian’s Palace tops the bill. It’s also the ideal gateway for exploring the islands of Brac and Hvar, just an hour’s ferry ride away. Here, you’ll find rugged coves, rolling forests and old-school Croatian towns. Or, opt for Pula, and alongside the hum of up-to-the-minute Croatia, you’ll be treated to a taste of ancient Rome. There’s a 1st-century amphitheatre at the heart of the city, hugged by terracotta-tipped houses, as well as the Temple of Augustus. And if it’s beaches you’re searching for, Pula’s teeming with horseshoe-shaped pebbly bays. An hour or two’s drive from Pula, you’ve got the swanky seaside resorts and islands of Kvarner Bay. This northerly region hovers under the radar of most tourists, but there are plenty of ancient castles and footprint-free coves to discover. Flight-wise, it’s around two and a half hours’ travel time from London to most of Croatia’s main airports, or up to four if you’re making your way from a northern point, like Manchester.
