About Montenegro
Flights to Montenegro land you right in the middle of the Balkans’ worst-kept secret. It may not take up a lot of map space compared to its neighbours, but this pocket rocket packs as much as possible into its borders. Flying direct to the capital of Podgorica takes around three hours from the UK and, with us, you can set off from London, Birmingham or Manchester. Step out of the airport, and you’re immediately greeted with the country’s trademark mountain peaks in the distance. An hour-and-a-half transfer will find you in the Bay of Kotor – you’ll definitely want to remember your camera for this one. It’s skirted by looming cliffs, and has a deep river canyon wouldn’t look out of place among Scandinavia’s lofty fjords. Plus, it’s home to terracotta towns which date back to the 14th century, so there’s plenty of history to be found. Along the coast in Budva, you’ll spot international hotels rubbing shoulders with a charming cobbled old town, and in next door Becici, the focus is on the leggy stretch of golden sand. Petrovac, meanwhile, deals in go-slow holidays spent in local shops and cafés, or wandering along the seaside. Head inland to the Tara River Canyon – one of the longest gorges in Europe – and you can up the energy with a spot of hiking, quad-biking or white-water rafting.
