Comino, Malta

Holidays to Malta take you to a Mediterranean archipelago that packs a lot into its small space. As one of the smallest countries in the world, you'll be surprised by how much there is to see and do here. Ancient temple exploration, lagoon snorkelling, and high street shopping are just the beginning.

A home away from home

Malta’s high streets are surprisingly similar to those in towns back home. If you’re used to shopping in places like Next, New Look, and Accessorize, you’ll feel right at home walking around Valletta's shopping district. The real difference is in the scenery, with Valletta’s stores hidden away inside ornate medieval Maltese buildings.

A UNESCO-worthy capital

Malta’s capital has earned UNESCO world heritage status, with 320 historically important monuments within the city limits. There’s a mostly flat coastal pathway that takes you to see some of these important sites. Starting at St Elmo Bay, you’ll meander around the bastion and the fort, ending up at the war memorial. Here, you can climb the steps to see the Siege Bell.

Unwind on the beach

On the main island, you’ll find Malta’s longest stretch of sandy beach at Mellieha Bay. Offering 800 metres of Blue Flag beach, these family-friendly sands are ideal for swimming. You can also try your hand at windsurfing. Over on the island of Gozo, Ramla beach is the main attraction, showing off the unspoilt beauty of the north coast.

Malta’s nightlife

From Valletta, it’s a 20-minute drive to St Julians, which is Malta’s nightlife hotspot. Here, you’ll find lively British and Irish pubs dotted amongst the Maltese and seafood restaurants that line the promenade. There are a few casinos in the area, too, if you’re feeling lucky.
