It's where Richard I married Queen Berengaria back in the 12th century, and it later became a military base for the invading Ottomans. Limassol Castle stands right in the centre of the Old Town. It's open to the public from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday.

A calendar of events

Visit Limassol in the first week of September for the Wine Festival of Cyprus. It's held in the municipal gardens, with stalls selling the best wines in Cyprus from early morning to 11pm. Beer lovers should book their flights for early June. Entrance to the Limassol Beer Festival is free, and it attracts huge crowds, including visitors from all over the world. But the biggest event of all is Limassol Carnival. Kicking off in early March, the 10-day festival includes parades, live music, street theatre, and much more.
