Holidays to St Spyridon take you to a tiny Corfu town that's built upon the legacy of Saint Spyridon, the patron saint of potters. Here, you'll have a choice of relaxing on the beach or watching the ducks and frogs at the local nature reserve.
There are two main attractions in St Spyridon, the beaches. The town’s two beaches are a great match for St Spyridon’s laidback, chilled-out atmosphere. Both feature calm, shallow waters and soft white sands that are ideal for families with small children. There’s still plenty of energy to be found here, though. The bars and restaurants that line the beachfront ensure there’s a classic Greek Islands feel, serving up colourful cocktails and traditional Corfu dishes like pastitsada.
For those travelling with little ones, or for anyone that loves nature, the local reserve is a great place to spend a day. Just a five-minute stroll from the beach and you’ll find yourself in the reserve, with all sorts of butterflies and rare animals to look out for, like the Lutra-lutra otter. There’s even more wildlife spotting to be had on the Agia Ekaterini Monastery walk, which takes you up the hilly backdrop for Ionian Sea views. You may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a red fox, or European hare.
St Spyridon is ideally positioned right on the northern tip of the island, so it forms a good base for town hopping around Corfu. While there are lots of great options, Corfu Town should definitely be up there on your list. The old Venetian fortresses and seaside gardens are very popular attractions. A little closer to St Spyridon lies Kassiopi, which is one of the most prominent towns in the Corfu wine-growing region. Moschato, Katigiorgis, and Cabernet Sauvignon are all grown on the island.
