View All DealsHolidays to Plimiri are all about taking in the sea views over the Mediterranean, and relaxing in one of Rhodes' quieter and less developed communities. It's a great way to learn more about the real way of life on the Greek Islands.
Plimiri lies on the south-east coast of Rhodes, almost at the bottom. It has a long curving bay, a marina and a few tavernas. If you want a quiet and secluded break, Plimmiri is the place for you. Its four kilometres of mostly sandy beach are backed with sand dunes, shrubs and trees. There are one or two beach cafés and a taverna serving up locally caught lobster and crayfish. Here, the octopus are still hung out to dry and the potatoes are all cut by hand.
Plimiri beach has a few loungers and brollies, and is so rarely crowded that it's visited by naturists. An off-shore wreck attracts divers from the nearby watersports centre, where you can also rent a boat or jet-ski and ride inflatables. If you're looking for a more family-friendly stretch of sand, a half-hour drive down the road takes you to the shallow water and soft sands at Prasinos islet, which are good for children.
From here it takes an hour and a half to drive to Rhodes Town, but it's worth it if you want a whole day out. There's a medieval walled city and a busy harbour, plus a bit of city bustle. Historic Lindos is about half that distance, and has classical remains and a big fortress on its Acropolis. Its little winding streets are also free of cars, so it's pleasant to wander around on foot. Alternatively, drive inland and check out the traditional local villages of Lachania and Kattavia.
