Holidays to the Olbia Area give you the perfect combination of city sightseeing and lazy days on sandy beaches.
The seaside city of Olbia sits on a shimmering shoreline stretch known as the Emerald Coast. And it’s not just the name that has links to precious gemstones – its beaches are the real crown jewels, and rank among the best in Europe. The waters that lap the shores are a brilliant blue, and the sand’s velvety-soft. One of the most popular parts to visit is Porto Istana Beach – it's got fine sand between small rocky patches, and photo-worthy views out to Tavolara Island.
If you want a glimpse of life in rural Sardinia, it’s worth taking a trip into the hills. The countryside is vast, mountainous and green – one thing’s for sure, you'll want to bring your camera. There are a few tiny, tucked-away villages scattered about the rolling landscape, some with small markets selling locally made wine and cheeses. You’ll likely come across authentic cafés and restaurants, too, where you can enjoy Italian food al fresco with a backdrop of forest-green scenery.
The city of Olbia's rich in history – it’s still got part of its defensive walls from the Middle Ages, along with a handful of medieval churches. It's home to one of Italy's most important harbours, too. On the other hand, if you're more into shopping and a good food and drink scene, there's plenty for you in that department. The main street in the city's called Corso Umberto, and it's home to high street brands and pretty boutiques. You've got a handful of pubs and food joints in city squares like the Piazza Regina Margherita, too.
The beauty of this region’s earned approval from some of the world’s biggest stars. Some of the VIPs who’ve holidayed on the north-east coast of Sardinia come straight from Hollywood’s red carpet – the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz and Anne Hathaway are on the ‘spotted’ list. Don’t be surprised if you catch a glimpse of show-stopping yachts as you cruise up and down the coastline, too.
