Beach days
The Costa del Sol is home to some of the best beaches in Spain. The biggest crowd-puller is Playacar in Torremolinos, with its kilometre of sand, sunloungers and watersports. At the opposite end of the scale, you’ve got Playa Carabeillo in Nerja — a quiet sand-and-shingle bay brushed by palms.
Shopping, daytrips and big nights out
From market bargains to high street names, the Costa del Sol is big on shopping. Gibraltar is the big hitter, thanks to its duty-free steals. While you’re there, make sure to climb up to the viewpoint to say hello to the Barbary apes. The Costa del Sol can also be a bit of a party animal. Torremolinos used to stay up all night, but these days Benalmadena gives it a run for its money. And they’re both only a 20-minute drive away from historic Malaga.
