Lying roughly halfway between Malaga and Estepona is the town of San Pedro de Alcantara. Holidays to San Pedro de Alcantara combine all the mod cons of the Costa del Sol with traditional Spanish living.
San Pedro is such a popular holiday destination because it has aspects that appeal to most travellers. Here, you can find relaxing beaches and sightseeing opportunities. San Pedro offers a classic Costa del Sol holiday, with chic cafés, bars, restaurants, and gift shops lining the beachfront. But it also has a very traditional side. Head inland from the beach and you’ll be transported to a quaint Spanish village with winding streets and tiny tapas bars.
If it’s beachside fun and relaxation you’re looking for, you’ll be pleased to hear that San Pedro has not one but two great beaches. Playa Cortijo Blanco is the town’s main beach, and it really comes alive with evening parties and get-togethers. Playa San Pedro is quieter. While the sands are mostly gravelly here, it's still a great spot for unwinding. Together, the two beaches form a five-kilometre stretch of coastal promenade.
Even for those who don’t like to sit on the beach, there’s plenty to do in and around San Pedro. The Roman ruins that still stand in the area are a great way to learn more about the history of the Costa del Sol. And for a daytrip with a difference, it takes just one hour to drive to Gibraltar. The highlight here is, of course, The Rock of Gibraltar. If you’re lucky, you may spot a few resident monkeys.
