Holidays to Cala Gracio balance go-slow days with easy-to-reach nightlife in Ibiza's party capital.
Sun-seekers pick Cala Gracio based on its back-to-basics principles. You'll find it on Ibiza – the most nightlife-centric of the Balearic Islands. But, it's in a hushed spot on the island's west coast, where the priorities are chilling on peaceful beaches from dawn 'til dusk. Despite its scenic backdrop, though, it's not completely out in the sticks – the White Isle's buzziest town is just around the corner, without actually coming into earshot.
While Cala Gracio sticks to the slow lane, the town next door – San Antonio – permanently has its foot down. It's only a five-minute cab ride around the coastline, but the two are like chalk and cheese. San Antonio Bay's bordered by smart restaurants and lively bars, with shopping streets filtering off away from the waterfront. Boat trips at sunset are a huge hit, and there's a chance you'll see a pod of dolphins frolicking out to sea. After dark, natural light's replaced by neon, and you can visit some of Ibiza's best super-clubs.
The well-furnished waterfront in San Antonio comes with a glut of bars and restaurants over its shoulder, but Cala Gracio prefers a simpler recipe. A tucked-away pocket of sand matches the town's intimate personality. It's hemmed in by tree-tufted headlands, so there's a real private feel to the surroundings.
