Balearic Island holidays deliver big when it comes to smooth swathes of sand, tourist-friendly towns and natural scenery.
This collection of sun-smattered islands is anchored in the western Mediterranean Sea, just off the coast of mainland Spain. The headline-grabbing trio, Majorca, Ibiza and Menorca, strike a balance between calm and cleared for action, with party towns and sleepy villages spread out along the shorefronts. The gaps in between are filled by pretty countryside plains and dramatic mountain ranges.
Ibiza conjures up images of hedonistic parties and DJ-fronted super-clubs. Both of those are on the cards, especially in San Antonio, but there’s so much more to the ‘White Isle’. The pristine sands of Playa d’en Bossa land you close to culture-loaded Ibiza Town, and Portinatx – at the northern tip – slows things down to first gear.
The sandcastle-coloured spires of Palma Cathedral are one of the biggest Balearic Island’s most talked-about sights. Venture beyond the capital, and the attractions take all different shapes and sizes. The Serra de Tramuntana mountain range rears up in the north, and the south-east is pepped up by party towns like Magaluf. Look east, and peaceful spots like Cala d’Or come into play.
