Under-the-radar Gran Canaria

You’ve probably heard of a lot of the seaside resorts nestled on Gran Canaria’s south coast – but not Balito Beach. This place is no Playa del Ingles or Puerto Rico. Instead, it’s stripped things back to basics, with a wild beach and just one hotel. Handily, it backs onto Anfi del Mar – also called Los Caideros – which tops you up with shops, tapas restaurants and a curve of pale sand.

Two-pronged coastline

The sands are completely left to their own devices at Balito Beach. You won’t find any facilities around here – it’s more of a peaceful stroll kind of place. If you want a longer walk, you can pace over to Anfi Beach in around 10 minutes. Here, the beach is a Caribbean-white type, backed by shops and restaurants. There are big breakwaters, too, so the waters are calm and clear.

Nearby nights out

Sunbathing’s not the only pastime in Anfi del Mar. This seaside gem’s got a heart-shaped island topped with a park, and a harbour for boat trips along the island’s south coast. But Balito Beach is also sandwiched between the bubbly resorts of Puerto Rico to the north and Arguineguin in the south. You can reach both in less than 10 minutes’ drive, which means nights on the town are easily done.
