Best time to go to Cologne

Much like in Ireland, the weather here’s a mixed bag – summers are warm, winters are cold, and rain showers are common year-round. The warmest months are July and August, with temperatures averaging out in the mid-twenties. As for winter, near-zero temperatures are the norm, so you’ll want to pack plenty of layers if you’re visiting for the Christmas markets.

Health & Safety

You should take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance to cover you while you’re away. It’s also a good idea to get a European Health Insurance Card – or EHIC – before leaving Ireland. Though it’s not a substitute for travel insurance, it entitles you to emergency medical treatment on the same terms as German nationals. It won't, however, cover you for medical repatriation, ongoing medical treatment or non-urgent treatment.
