Holidays to Hersonissos are packed with activities, as it's one the busiest resorts in northern Crete. Three sandy beaches, a lively waterfront and two fun water parks combine with nearby Minoan ruins and a modern town.
Hersonissos is one of Crete's liveliest spots, with bars, clubs and restaurants to be found in the town's centre and along the busy waterfront. After sunset is when things get going in the clubs and bars, which attract many big-name DJs. You'll also find live music in Irish pubs in the back streets, and quieter bars where you can enjoy a more relaxed romantic cocktail.
As well as the three large and popular sandy beaches, there are several more secluded coves for swimming. At the main beaches you'll find watersports such as jet-skiing, windsurfing, snorkelling and banana boats. There’s even an area for naturists at the western end, if you’re not keen on tan-lines. And of course, there are those water parks for family fun.
There's lots to do in Hersonissos, including horse riding, bike hire and jeep safaris. You can go off-roading in an ATV, enjoy a day out on the ocean in a pirate boat or take a walking tour of the Aposelemis Gorge. For culture, the ancient archaeological palace site at Malia is less than 20 minutes away by car. 40 minutes' drive east will take you to Aghios Nikolaus, a pretty seaside town where you can get boats to Spinalonga island.
