Lake Levico, Italy

Peak walking, town exploring and toe dipping – that’s what holidays to Lake Levico are all about.

Dive into the past

Named after its neighbouring lake, Levico Terme was put on the map after its mineral-rich waters became a cure for medical issues in the nineteenth century. The town’s steeped in history, with former royal residences still standing today, now as hotels and museums. Visit the Grand Hotel Imperial, a stand-out yellow building that was once a holiday home for the Austrian nobility. And there are other nods to the Austro-Hungarian empire too, like the Holy Redeemer parish church with its onion-domed towers.

Lakeside living

Lake Levico’s known as one of Italy’s warmest and cleanest lakes thanks to its smaller size, so it’s perfect for a dip. You can also hire stand-up paddleboards, pedalos and canoes here if you prefer to stay dry, or you can admire the lake from the promenade along the water’s edge instead. If one lake isn’t enough, Lake Caldonazzo’s only a short train or bus-ride away, and you can try some higher-octane activities like wind surfing and waterskiing.

King of the castle

At the base of the Lagorai mountains, Levico’s surrounded by hillside forts and castles that helped protect it in the past. You can wander to the 19th-century Benne Fortress, the ruins of Selva Castle, and the charming little Church of San Biagio. Whichever you walk to, make sure to pack your camera as you’re in for some pretty impressive views of the town and lake from up here. Another thing not to forget is your Trentino Guest Card, which gets you free or discounted entry to regional attractions – pick up your card for free when you check-in at your hotel.
