With hundreds of walking trails, rugged mountain scenery and heaps of history, there’s a lot to love about holidays to Madonna di Campiglio.
The town’s got a long history of being a fashionable favourite, and was once the place to be seen for nobles who came for the fresh air and thermal baths. Today, it’s still got a classy reputation, and a good spot to see some famous faces, treat yourself to some retail therapy and dine in style from a Michelin-starred menu.
If you prefer natural beauty to a material world, you’ll love the Brenta Ademello National Park, with it’s UNESCO-protected peaks and almost 1000km of walking trails. Jump in a gondola and head up the mountain for some picture-perfect scenery of waterfalls and lakes, and you might even see some Ibex, bears or steinbock in fir-tree forests. Make sure you stop at a rifugio for a cappuccino with a view before heading back down.
And if soaking up a bit of local culture is more your thing, take a trip to the 13th-century Church of San Vigilio in Pinzolo and check out its famous ‘danse macabre’ fresco. To get a feel for rural mountain life, head to Caderzone Terme, a rural village that’s preserving it’s rich alpine roots with museums and food and drink festivals. Plus, there’s thermal baths here, so you can unwind with a dip after a day of learning.
