Portinatx beach, Ibiza

With direct flights from Dublin, holidays to Portinatx will show you what Ibiza was like before it gained its more recent party-hard reputation. Expect quiet sandy beaches, relaxed restaurants and a great hippy market.

The real Ibiza

Before the party scene launched in Ibiza, people used to come to the island for beautiful coastal scenery, pine forests and seafood restaurants. The great thing is that Portinatx is still all about these elements, rather than nightclubs. A humble village located on Ibiza’s north coast, Portinatx has a pretty horseshoe bay, flanked by aromatic pine forests. There's a great selection of bars and eateries with views of the bay. It’s perfect for those who just want to relax on holiday.

Two great beaches

There are two beaches in Portinatx’s bay. The main beach, S’Arenal Gros, has a 125-metre curve of yellow sand in a small cove. The water here is shallow and calm – perfect for paddling – and you’ll find some watersports options too. The second beach is S’Arenal Petit. Here you’ll find a secluded stretch with lots of pine trees offering natural shade. If you head to the northern end of the village, you’ll also find Es Port, which is a fishing beach. Snorkelling enthusiasts love it here.

Plenty of activities

Portinatx is a quiet resort, but you won’t be short of things to do. As you might expect, watersports are popular here – scuba diving and glass-bottom boat trips are two hot favourites. On dry land, there’s a 10-pin bowling alley and minigolf to choose from. Once the sun’s gone down each evening, you’ll have a range of bars and restaurants to visit.

Days out

Due to its beach location, Portinatx offers some great coastal trails. For seasoned walkers, head along the 10-kilometre path to Punta de Xarraca. You’ll see stunning scenery, and there's a lovely beach at the end. Meanwhile, the popular resort of Cala d’en Serra is about a 90-minute drive. If you’d like to visit Ibiza’s trendy capital, Ibiza Town, take the 30-minute drive and soak up the cosmopolitan vibe.
