Holidays to Calas de Mallorca are an easy option. It keeps to the Spain's simple formula of sandy beaches and a bumper dose of family-friendly fun.

Laidback resort

Calas de Mallorca has been around since the Sixties so it knows what it’s doing. The purpose-built resort on Majorca's east coast makes things easy – the shops, bars and restaurants are all clustered in the town centre. You really don’t need to move around too much – you’ve got a trio of sandy coves right on your doorstep.

Three coves

Each one of Calas de Mallorca’s coves has fine golden sand and crystal-clear water. The largest here is Cala Domingos – a Blue Flag strip that’s still a bit of a tiddler at 100 metres. Activity-wise, you’ve got pedalos, bodyboarding and windsurfing.

Family friendly

The place is quite small, so it’s a doddle to get round. But if little feet do get tired, there’s a mini train to jump on. In the centre of town you’ve got a funfair with bouncy castles, crazy golf and a zip wire. As for the evenings, the restaurants here are very welcoming, and if you ask nicely they’ll be happy to serve up smaller portions for kids.

Easy daytrips

Calas de Mallorca is a great jumping-off point for exploring the hidden coves this side of the coast. Thirty minutes’ drive gets you to a golden trio – unspoilt Cala d’Or, Cala Llombards with its shallow, turquoise waters and secluded Portopetro, great for poking around rock pools. Or you can head the opposite way to the famous Caves of Drach – the best bit is a boat ride around the underground lake.
