View All DealsOn holidays to Puerto del Carmen you'll have the choice of three beaches and a vibrant nightlife on the waterfront. You can marvel at the moonscape at Timanfaya National Park, and visit historic monuments at the island's capital in Arrecife.
A direct flight from Dublin, Cork or Shannon will land you on Lanzarote, an ever-popular Canary Islands destination. Puerto del Carmen has evolved from a traditional 1960s fishing village to the lively holiday hub you'll find today. There are three Blue Flag beaches and a waterside promenade, where you can pick from the many bars, restaurants and clubs.
Lanzarote is not just about the beaches. Its unique landscape has earned the island a protected status as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. You might think you're on the moon among the black rock formations and silver mountain peaks of the interior. In Timanfaya National Park, called the Fire Mountains, you can see over 100 volcanic craters.
It's only a 30-minute drive to Lanzarote’s capital, Arrecife. You can visit its historic 16th-century sea fortress by means of a stone bridge. The Museum of Contemporary Art is close by, housed in an 18th-century castle. Cesar Manrique was Lanzarote's famous architect. He renovated this building and produced many other installations around the island. 30 minutes' drive north will bring you to his iconic windmill sculpture in Arrieta, and the bar/concert hall he created in Jameos del Agua's volcanic caves.
