Valencia, Spain

Holidays to the Valencia region promise long sandy beaches, and a landscape studded with rice paddies and citrus groves. Modern cities mix with traditional coastal resorts and medieval walled towns.

Plenty of choice

The Valencia region is on the east coast of Spain, stretching inland towards the central plains. More than half of Spanish oranges and lemons come from the Valencia region, so you'll always get the best fresh juice. There are some historic ruins, including a Roman amphitheatre at Sagunt and a Moorish fortress at Cullera. Not far from the beaches at Benidorm, you can have fun at amusement parks such as Terra Mitica and the Aqualandia water park.

Ancient and modern

Settlement in this region goes back to prehistoric times, but the vibrant city of Valencia is thoroughly modern. In this, the third-largest Spanish city, you can find the City of Arts and Sciences complex. It's one of Europe's best science museums, and its largest oceanographic park, where you can see over 500 species of marine creatures. You can visit Valencia city's museums, art galleries and medieval monuments, and take time out at nearby beaches.

Costa Blanca

The Costa Blanca or White Coast runs some 450 kilometres down the length of the Valencia region. Here, you'll find the popular resorts of Alicante and Benidorm. More than 200 kilometres of this region is composed of the white-sand beaches which give it its name. In Benidorm you'll get Blue Flag beaches, an attractive old town and lots of partying. Alicante's beaches are backed by a stylish city with art galleries, boutiques and a smart marina. Nearby in Elche you can discover a unique UNESCO-listed palm grove, and natural wetlands where you'll often see flamingoes.
