About La Gomera
With an area of just 146 square miles, it’s easy to see why the tiny island of La Gomera is often over-shadowed by its larger Canary Island counterparts, like Tenerife and Gran Canaria. But its small size does have its benefits – holidaymakers book flights to La Gomera to get away from it all, because this part of the world moves at a slower pace than others. Hotels are small, restaurants are family-run, and bars are low-key, even in the main resorts, like Valle Gran Rey and San Sebastian. Away from civilisation, you’ll find leafy rainforests, beaches that are almost footprint-free, and volcanic mountain ridges carving their way through a UNESCO-rated national park. As such, walking is a big pastime on the island, which has also been dubbed the Greenest Canary Isle. If you do want to up the ante, though, short boat rides, and hopper-stopper flights from La Gomera airport, connect you with the Canaries’ bigger players.
