Escape the winter chill

With more than 300 days of sunshine a year, and temperatures of 22°C in December, Lanzarote is the place to go for a sunshine fix during the winter months. Playa Blanca is one of the newest resorts on the island. It lies right on the southern tip of Lanzarote and gets the best weather all year round. The town was built around Playa Blanca beach, which is one of the three main beaches in the region. From here, walk 30 mins west along the seafront to the more relaxed Flamingo beach. Or stroll 10 minutes east to Dorada beach for banana boat rides, pedalos, and paragliding.

Famous for its rural mountainous interior, Gran Canaria is for active travellers who want to explore the island on foot. Take a hiking trip from San Pedro to Tamadaba. You'll cover 8km of mountain walkways, forest tracks, and caves cut from the volcanic rock by the island's indigenous tribes over 2,000 years ago.

Footprint-free Fuerteventura

Beaches are the beginning, middle and end of holidays to Fuerteventura. It gives Spain’s mainland Costas a run for their money, with a hundred-strong catalogue of sandy sweeps. They range from secluded spots that are fringed by vast natural parks to waterfronts backed by beach bars, seafood restaurants and souvenir shops. Corralejo‘s got a foot in each camp, with a vast shoreline that’s just a short cab ride from a modern town centre.
